Go down gambling when you hear the call of the wild

With these dark and depressing days we all need a little something to spice up our life and us artists are no different. There we were wallowing about in our creative filth when the idea struck that we would have a little paint-off using the same base image. The rules were simple; we had to create a complete design using the same image of a friend of ours, we would then paint the background of the image before passing it over to the other to finish off with their foreground design.

After having a small photo shoot we headed off to our respective caves to complete the first step of the mission. We emerged with our canvasses held aloft screaming and taunting one another with ‘How’s about this then?’ or something similar (but with more swear words). We then both looked at each others’ work so far and gave a non-committal shrug before grabbing the offending canvas from the other’s hands and stalking off, looking to cover the others’ inferior work with something a little higher class. What we’re left with is two mashup pictures; one was originally to be called ‘Go down gambling’ and the other ‘Call of the wild’. What exactly they’re called now i’m not so sure. Maybe ‘Go down calling’ and ‘Go wild gambling’? Got any better ideas? If so, just drop us a postcard with your suggestions…

Back to the Future

Back to the Future

We don’t usually put out spoiler shots or the like but i’ve made an exception for this little QR code as it’s taken up a load of my time and i’ve been working on this canvas for some time now and thought she deserved a little build up before I get her finished.

Once we’d managed to come up with the initial idea for this commission (which in itself took a fair bit of time) the main bulk of the canvas was fairly easy to complete but then I was left with my final conundrum. How was I meant to get six QR codes on there so that they were readable, working and looking good? I considered just about all the options I could think of – by hand, stencilled, gel medium transfer, wheatpaste, etc but i was concerned that; a) they wouldn’t be readable (and therefore wouldn’t take you to my carefully selected links) or b) they just wouldn’t look right considering most of the rest of the picture is stencilled. So I finally settled on screen printing in the hope the codes would be easily legible and look sweet.

After a bit of trial and error it was time to move to the canvas – which itself proved problematic as it’s not flat or straight. So, after moving my entire printing set up and setting it up raised off the ground (to accommodate the fact that the canvas has 4cm deep box sides) I then had to put something behind the canvas to ensure a flat edge to print against. Anyway, enough of my problems. Suffice it to say I finally managed to get it nailed and this is the product of my endeavours…

The Midas Touch

The Midas Touch

The Midas Touch

Hands up who knows the story of the King Midas and his golden touch? Well, it’s the story of a greedy and foolish man whose wish to have everything he touched turn to gold became reality. He soon came to realise that this wasn’t quite as great as he thought as having food and drink turn to gold made life pretty difficult.

Now look at the subject of our picture. Here is a man who seems to have everything and but as the picture states ‘yet still he cried’. He had it all;  women, jewels, drugs, money, all the wealth of the world but unfortunately that means little to a man who can’t enjoy them. The folly of human greed is a tale he is surely learning the hard way as he cries himself to sleep worrying that his fortune will be taken from him and that he can trust no-one. As they saying goes – money can’t buy you love.

Leporine inhalant abuse

Leporine inhalant abuse

Leporine inhalant abuse

Anyone who knows our work might think that we have something against rabbits and that’s just not the case as I actually really quite like most of the little blighters. That said that doesn’t mean I think they have rainbows following them around. They can definitely have a dark side. And you’d best believe that they are certainly not cute.

I actually tried to get this fella some help for his addiction when i came across him. Sadly i learnt the hard way that they are best left alone, as he came at me with those dead zombie like eyes looking straight through me, teeth bared and ready and willing to go for the throat but luckily i managed to escape as he was a little slow on his feet. I lived to warn all those unfortunate enough to come across other such Leporine inhalant abusers.

This picture captures a bad moment in a young leveret‘s life. One he’d probably hope hadn’t been caught for posterity by an inquisitive artist. But it had to be done and now we all know.

I’ve got a dirty mind

I've got a dirty mind

I’ve got a dirty mind

There’s something that has been becoming ever more clear in my mind the older I get and that is that nearly all women are truly depraved. On the surface they may seem composed and serene but in reality they can match any man when it comes to filthy and impure thoughts. When women are in groups the kind of things they talk about aren’t shopping or any new beauty regimes, what is actually talked about is just down right dirty and I don’t mean anything so crass as ‘lady troubles’.

These women talk about anything any group of men will talk about but its nearly always about 10 times worse with incredible bouts of vulgarity. The only reason i know this is a technique i’ve learnt called ‘keeping mum and getting drunk’ which, if you’re good at, will eventually lead to them chattering away and forgetting that you are even there. It is at this point that the magic really starts. Next time I’m in half a mind to try and record it – although i’d probably have to fear for my safety for a long time afterwards…

A Hero to Save

A hero to save

A hero to save

Even heroes need some assistance every once in a while and this guy is no different. I’ll admit he doesn’t look like much of a hero but then again who does unless you run around in skin-tight spandex and/or have a magical assortment of wonderful gadgets and gizmos. This fella is more of your everday hero and he saved a cat from a tree last Thursday and didn’t even tell anyone about it. That’s just how he rolls.

It just so happened I was walking past and saw the brave deed taking place in front of my very eyes. I asked if I could take his photo but he politely declined so I had to recreate him from memory and as you can probably guess it was his smile that stood out. No selfless act should go unpublished…
