The crown that sits upon the soul is enough to ruin one and all

The crown that sits upon the soul is enough to ruin one and all. Howzat for a hefty and pretentious title? I just thought if I start the post off sounding clever and literary then I can just take it downhill from there. Old Jimmy 3 crowns here has been having bad dreams as he’s been watching too much Game of Thrones and wakes up thinking that he’s going to become the next king of Westeros and meet a particularly grisly fate after a series of increasingly poor decisions. Or maybe I should rename the piece ‘Soul crown’ as that has a more jazzy ring to it then I can do a post which would probably be more about soul music. I’m undecided on the whole issue. Or perhaps I’m just making it all up as I go along in order just to write some accompanying text.  Sometimes even I’m not sure…

The Christmas Skull

The Christmas Skull

The Christmas Skull

I think there should be a jolly festive song called ‘The Christmas skull’. I have done a cursory bit of internet research and it would appear that no errant songsmith has managed to come to my aid as of yet. We live in hope. This piece was actually drawn on Christmas morning last year whilst recovering from the shenanigans of the previous evening (which included losing a dog that wasn’t ours) and waiting for a lift up to my auntie’s for Christmas Day. The picture isn’t very pretty but then again neither was I at the time. I felt defeated but still in charge. Like a king whose lost a battle but is still around to try and make amends. I think a combination of hangover and sleep deprivation was probably just kicking in at that point though…

We Come, We Go

We Come, We Go

We Come, We Go

We all only have one life to live so you might as well live it to its fullest, take every day as your last and all that malarkey and this beauty is doing just that. Her parents always told her to put her clothes back on when she was a child but she just didn’t care she was going to do as she wished and even now as someone more advanced in age she’s still up to her old tricks. Admittedly this doesn’t always go down to well at parties but then again who cares, certainly not her that’s for sure.

id-iom Interior Decoration at your service…

125 Crest on wall (in progress)

Way back in the middle of September we started off doing our little bit of interior decoration at the House of Pain(t) and the image above was the first wall we started painting and also the first image we posted. My wall piece was based around the image below that we had done as a thank you to the developer who had kindly let us move into the basement and use it as our studio for 18 months.

When we started we thought we only had a week or two to get any work done before the demolition crew were moving in. As time passed and the schedule slipped we realised that we may have enough time to complete the entire house. Given that we got another couple of months out of it gave us just about all the time we needed to get the interior sorted ‘a la id-iom’. Towards the end I realised the 125 Crest wall was looking a little incomplete so I made some additions to give it a more finished feel. I thought it only fitting that our final wall should be an update from where we started…

King Dog and the Angels

King Dog and the Angels

King Dog and the Angels

When we started working upstairs at the House of Pain(t) we invited a couple of friends along to help out. In one of the upstairs rooms Perspicere went to work doing a thread piece that my poor photography skills just don’t do justice to as it’s pretty elaborate and nebulous (it’s the thinner dark thread you can just about make out in the background). He even came back the next week to try and get it completed but then had to leave early due to a small domestic emergency. After doing pretty much all the rest of the house we had his not-quite-completed room to contend with. As there were so many nails in the walls and thread all over the place the only thing we could really do was continue his work to some degree.

So we decided to make it some kind of  angel and ‘laser’ protected shrine to a strange canine king that is looking benignly down on a pair of kissing angels. It sounds odd now I’ve written it down but it seemed the only course of action we could reasonably take at that time.  You have to use your imagination a little to pretend the red threads are laser beams protecting the shrine but i must stress that the effect is really much better if you see it in person (which you can’t). The angels had been lurking in the basement for some project that never came to pass and they just took up too much space to be transported onwards with us. I hope they’re happy.

Go on! Put ’em up

Go on! Put 'em up

Go on! Put ’em up

Now for something a little different… Check out this feisty little bugger. He’s just spoiling for a fight and he’s got you in his sights! If you’re not careful he could get you with one of his right hook, left hook, uppercut combos. I’m not entirely convinced of how much damage it would do though as it looks like his skinny little wrists would shatter if he punched anything tougher than a pillow. It looks like they would sprain as he tried to swing his arm through the air!

Is it irony that he was bestowed with an unforgiving and aggressive attitude but has very little to back it up with? It’s difficult to tell how tall he is from the picture but I get the impression he’s quite small but a bit punchy and probably has something of a Napoleon complex. However effective he thinks he is in the ring I know I’d back a 90 year old granny to take the crown off this chump and become King of the Ring.

Mumble love creeping!

Being a slow loris Mumble loves plenty of stuff – food, sleeping and getting tickled to name but a few. But the thing he loves most is creeping up on people. He’s the king of it. It’s in his genes and he just can’t help it.  So here he is creeping up on yet another unsuspecting victim.

Slow lorises are an interesting animal as they are one of the few mammals with a posionous bite (although it’s quite mild and has apparently only one related human fatality – but that was down to anaphlyactic shock) but due largely to the exotic pet trade and also the fact that they are used in traditional medicine (for their supposed ability to ward off evil spirits) they are now an endangered species. Which is pretty sad when you think about it. Especially after watching the viral video of the one getting tickled…

A right bobby dazzler and no mistake!

After posting a while back about our part in this collaboration with the fantastic Mimilove we finally have our grubby mitts on the finished product celebrating our bonus April bank holiday. I have just checked on the web and found that the royal wedding even has it’s own official website. If i’ve ever come across a site that deserves hacking for some internet related tomfoolery (other than perhaps some of the multi-national corporate websites) then it’s this one. I’d just love to substitute our picture for the official one on there…

Not only has Mimi included some lovely little cockney sparrows she has also added a crown on the lovely Ms. Middleton and put some words in the mouth of our corgi headed future king William –  ‘Cor blimey! I can’t adam & eve me mince pies. You’re a right bobby dazzler and no mistake.’ If you have any trouble understanding that sentence you are clearly not a cockney and need to go to the internet for translation.

If anyone is interested this lovely collaborative piece is for sale to commemorate the big day – which, you’ve got admit, was a good one. There were all kinds of street parties going on near us although it was difficult to work out if they were celebrating the marriage of Kate & Will, the fact that the had the day off, the fact that it was sunny or perhaps all of the above…
