Boards, glorious boards! (part 7)

Belle epoque

Almost Original Grace

Have a peek…

Well, that weekend flew by. We were djing at the Isle of Wight festival for Pootopia and now it’s back down to earth with a bump. Pootopia provide toilets at festivals and they have hundreds of compostable toilets and are beautifying them with artwork on boards which fit into the toilet doors. Which is where we came in. We managed to get 32 finished over a weekend, which is eight shy of our self imposed target of forty but pretty good all the same. It was good to finally see some of our boards in situ although i’m pretty sure we failed to get any pictures – which is a bit rubbish but not entirely surprising.

So here’s the seventh load of doors and with only one more day of boards to go I’ll be glad to move onto something new…

Lips so nice we did ’em twice

Soooooo, it’s Friday and we’re off to the Isle of Wight festival to do a bit of djing. What a lovely day for it. Anyway, i digress. If you haven’t been paying attention then a brief recap is probably in order. Here it goes –  we went down to Somerset to paint some boards for Pootopia who provide toilets at festivals.  They have hundreds of compostable toilets and are beautifying them with some artwork on boards which fit into the toilet doors. Which is where we came in. We set ourselves a somewhat ambitious target of completing 40 boards over the weekend. Despite working just about as hard as we could we only managed a final tally of 32 completed boards (with 7 left just as backgrounds and one MIA). Not too shabby if i say so myself. The hard part was trying to make it so they didn’t all look too similar.

Today I present to you our sixth set of boards and I can see the finish line from here. Right, cats to herd and curtains to iron. Toodle pip for now…

Boards, glorious boards (part 3)

The terror

So this is our third set of boards and we aren’t even half way through them yet! As previously mentioned we headed to Somerset to paint as many boards as we could handle in a weekend for the nice folks at Pootopia.

It was pretty busy weekend and we didn’t finish till 9pm on Sunday but less about my troubles here’s the third load of finished boards…

With festival season almost upon us we were invited down to Somerset to paint as many boards as we could handle in a weekend for the nice folks at Pootopia. They have hundreds of compostable toilets and are beautifying them with some artwork on boards which fit into the toilet doors. Which is where we come in. After jumping in the id-iomobile and heading West into the setting sun we arrived late so got to work early Saturday morning and set ourselves a somewhat ambitious target of completing 40 boards over the weekend. Despite working just about as hard as we could we only managed a final tally of 32 completed boards (with 7 left just as backgrounds and one MIA). Not too shabby if i say so myself. The hard part was trying to make it so they didn’t all look too similar.

It was somewhat manic and we didn’t finish till 9pm on Sunday but here’s the second load of finished boards…

Mothers seduce each others son’s

Now what’s the world coming to when two mothers have a game of swap-a-roo with each others son’s? It’s madness I tell you, just madness! Maybe there’s more to it than a little bump and grind or maybe not. Who knows? They could very well just be a pair of cougars trying to outdo each other. Who am I to guess?

Like the rest of this sordid little lot these pictures have been reimagined from actual news headlines. I fill my head with this grubby nonsense so you don’t have to. Vive la revolution!

Amor Vincit Omnia

There’s something going on at Camden Market. Slowly all the huts that make up a lot of the shops are being given a graffiti makeover and we managed to wangle ourselves an invite. Being the gritty street artists that we undoubtedly are we decided to go for something dark and urban.

Only joking. The title of this piece translates as ‘Love conquers all’ and is written above the door in Latin. Combined with the multitude of hearts surrounding this ladies’ face it would seem that she’s got nothing to worry about. Apart from the fact she seems to be eating a padlock. I’m not really sure about that. We added a little quote to the entry step ‘Your body is not a temple, it’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.’ It is Camden after all. Then, we added some LED eyes and, hey presto, you’ve got the finished piece. I’m not sure how long the LED’s will last but at least she should hopefully remain in place for some time to come. Thanks to Monoprixx for the daytime shots and the Real Art of Street Art for having us over to paint.

L.S.I

L.S.I

L.S.I

Depending on what age you are you might well remember the Shamen song ‘LSI (Love Sex Intelligence)’ which was released in 1992. I haven’t thought of the song in many years but there I was painting away with the tunes on random when the song explodes out of the speakers to traverse through my ears only to lodge deep in my brain. Despite concerted efforts to rid myself of this earworm within a couple of minutes I could think of nothing more than the chorus repeating unheeded on a loop in my noggin. I’m not sure if it was a good thing or bad thing that I couldn’t remember any more verses but the chorus was enough. I was in deep so after a brief bit of internet research (which means I played the YouTube video and had a quick look at the song’s lyrics) a half-formed idea had planted itself in my minuscule brain and after some percolation would reveal itself on paper as the piece you see before you now, which I cunningly title ‘L.S.I’. That was enough to rid myself of the earworm for the time being. But it’ll be back. It’s just a matter of time…
