Sergey loves fun!

Sergey

It’s pretty obvious that Sergey likes fun isn’t it? Just look at the big cheesy grin on his face. Only joking as his face is clearly a little sombre looking. Perhaps someone has just told him some unfortunate news. Anyway, we get some odd requests here at id-iom HQ and today’s commission was certainly one of those. One of our contacts on flickr got in touch and asked if we could use a photo of him and interpret it however we like. I had a look at his serious looking face and decided he needed an injection of fun to lighten him up a little. So here he is drunk on holiday in Cancun with all his spring break buddies. He’s at the front of the rambunctious pack pulling an amusing face for the camera.  Go Sergey!

I should point out that the original photo on flickr wasn’t by me. It was by

As it’s in the cyrillic alphabet I’m not entirely sure what the name is but there you have it. You should have a go at photoshopping Sergey. It’s fun.

id-iom @ Whitecross Street Party 2014

LED eyes close up

brooch close up

We arrived at WXSP on Sunday at about 12.45 which given the state both of us were in was quite a feat. We’d been djing at a friend’s wedding the previous evening and were a little the worse for wear. It was also hot and we had zero ideas in the way of a plan for the day. But sometimes we work better that way.

After agreeing between us that there was to be no conscious plan we attacked the boards with all the gusto we could muster. A couple of afternoon beers helped the whole process along and before you know it we’d just about managed to knock the whole thing into some kind of shape. As we were thinking about calling it a day Artista showed up just in time for us to give her a pen or two and ask her kindly to draw a piece of toast on it. With the addition of some LED eye’s we were pretty much all done just as they started to clean up and then dismantle the boards. Ah well, they were never going to last forever. Until next time…

All kinds of disgraceful going on

All kinds of disgraceful going on

All kinds of disgraceful going on

Just last week I went to a house party somewhere in North London. It was all part of some birthday celebrations which turned into a very long weekend indeed. On arrival at said party the door was answered by somebody who invited me in and slyly revealed that there was ‘all kinds of disgraceful going on’. I’ve tried to capture the chap from memory but this is the best I could do. He did look a little bit shifty. I did say it was partway through a long weekend so you can hardly expect my recall to be perfect. Anyway, after a quick perusal in a couple of the rooms I could only agree with him so settled myself in the kitchen with a bottle of vodka for the long haul. I was lucky to make it out of there alive…

City of Dreams – Whitecross Street Party 2013

City of Dreams - WXSP 2013

City of Dreams – WXSP 2013

On Sunday we packed up the idiomobile and made our way to the Whitecross Street Party to paint for the second time (thanks to Teddy for inviting us back again) and what a day we had. To say the sun was out is a bit of an understatement to say the least, one half of id-iom was certainly feeling the effects after having a little too much fun the evening before. That said at least we managed to finish the piece even if it was with sweat running down our faces like Niagara falls.

City of Dreams – WXSP 2013

For this piece we decided to go with a girl in the colours of the Joker. I can’t tell you why though because i had nothing to do with this design. Whilst the other half of id-iom was busy designing, cutting and getting ready for Whitecross, I was sunning myself in Mallorca on a cheeky little 4 day holiday.

Some of the other artists involved over the weekend included: Mydog sighs, Miss Wah Wah, Fletch, Leeks, Parlee, Nathan Bowen, Zadok, Dep, Airborne Mark and Jimmy C (to name but a few).

As is always the case when a bunch of artists are kicking around the same street corner we all end up getting a little giddy. My case in point is the electrical junction box that was situated just next to where we were all painting. We’d put Poet Mouse on it last year and I was glad to see it was still there. Once that had been noticed everyone decided to get in on the action. Oooops!!

Cling to the Rock

Cling to the Rock

Cling to the Rock (Crest detail)

This piece was a commission for a fellow Manx compatriot living in London – so truth be be told this was a fun one to do as we know just the kind of thing us humble islanders like. The idea behind this one is pretty simple as they say the Isle of Man is just 80,000 alcoholics clinging to a rock in the middle of the Irish Sea. Which is completely untrue. Only about 72,000 are alcoholics…

As you can tell we’ve really gone to town on this piece and done plenty of screen printing, a little embroidery and some hand work & distressing – for that ‘found in an attic’ aged look. We’ve seen fit to include Blinky the fish (from the Simpsons) as Sellafield (a nuclear reprocessing plant) is pretty much exactly opposite us on the Cumbrian coast and has always been a cause for concern for those living on the Island. We’ve included some mysterious map co-ordinates that should hopefully have a little meaning to the recipient along with various other elements (like the triskele and ambigram in the bottom right corner) which should hold some intrigue for him. I’m also still slightly obsessed with the distressed looking crests so am particularly proud of how they’ve come out.

Cling to the Rock ( To remember list)

In fact, the biggest shame about this piece is the fact that we forgot to take pictures before we sent it to the framer so most of the shots we have (obviously!) feature a lot of reflections and don’t really do it any justice. Oh well, you live and learn. On the plus side though we’ve really enjoyed working on maps so expect more before too long…

Ain’t no party like a Hot 27 party!

We were asked to come up with some decoration for a hip hop/bling party so we put on some phat hip hop and set our little minds to work. As the party was for two gentlemen who were both celebrating their 27th birthdays we came up with a Hot 27 theme (obviously clearly ‘inspired’ by the logo for the Hot 97 radio station) and went from there. We came up with a 3m x 1m banner, a hip hop hall of fame, a big Hot 27 sign and various other bits of ephemera to really give it that New York A list block party feel! Oh yeah, and we used up a couple of cans of snow spray for that indoor graf feeling.
