Boards, glorious boards (part 5)

The sun is shining and it finally feels like summer has officially arrived. Just in time for festival season! Now, if you haven’t been following so far then where exactly have you been? Anyway, a brief recap, we went down to Somerset to paint some boards for Pootopia who provide toilets at festivals.  They have hundreds of compostable toilets and are beautifying them with some artwork on boards which fit into the toilet doors. Which is where we came in. We set ourselves a somewhat ambitious target of completing 40 boards over the weekend. Despite working just about as hard as we could we only managed a final tally of 32 completed boards (with 7 left just as backgrounds and one MIA). Not too shabby if i say so myself. The hard part was trying to make it so they didn’t all look too similar.

Today I present to you our fifth set of boards and we’re on a downhill slope from here. Right, dogs to feed and curtains to iron. Au revoir for now…

Cheers

We’re at part 4 now and if you haven’t been following then where exactly have you been? And here is our fourth set of boards and we’re just about at the halfway mark. I didn’t realise quite how busy we were that weekend…

Boards, glorious boards (part 3)

Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm

I am Siamese if you please

The terror

So this is our third set of boards and we aren’t even half way through them yet! As previously mentioned we headed to Somerset to paint as many boards as we could handle in a weekend for the nice folks at Pootopia.

It was pretty busy weekend and we didn’t finish till 9pm on Sunday but less about my troubles here’s the third load of finished boards…

Boards, glorious boards (part 2)

Meanwhile in Brixton…

A bird in the hand

Dead good dibo

Pink buccaneer wallpaper

With festival season almost upon us we were invited down to Somerset to paint as many boards as we could handle in a weekend for the nice folks at Pootopia. They have hundreds of compostable toilets and are beautifying them with some artwork on boards which fit into the toilet doors. Which is where we come in. After jumping in the id-iomobile and heading West into the setting sun we arrived late so got to work early Saturday morning and set ourselves a somewhat ambitious target of completing 40 boards over the weekend. Despite working just about as hard as we could we only managed a final tally of 32 completed boards (with 7 left just as backgrounds and one MIA). Not too shabby if i say so myself. The hard part was trying to make it so they didn’t all look too similar.

It was somewhat manic and we didn’t finish till 9pm on Sunday but here’s the second load of finished boards…

Those who dance…

As i thought it was a nice comparison here’s the uncoloured version of the main stencil.

I like to think of this girl as dancing round a jumping dancefloor with a mischievous look in her eye whilst she casts about for someone fun to dance with. The little bird on her shoulder is undoubtedly whispering naughty suggestions in her ear which she’s probably about to act upon. Or something like that.

With the outbreak of some half decent weather I thought it high time to bust out the spray cans and get some work done. The title of ‘Those who dance…’ comes from a quote which is attributed to George Carlin and is stencilled above the piece in it’s complete form:

‘Those who dance are considered insane by those who can’t hear the music’.

Which, I think, is quite a nice sentiment. So there you have it. What’s next?

USR&MM ‘Stoya’ Pleasurebot

If you’ve ever read any Isaac Asimov books (and if you haven’t then you’re missing out) then you’re probably aware that many of his books concern robots which were created by his fictional company ‘USR&MM’ (which stands for U.S Robots & Mechanical Men).

Now I’m sure that Asimov didn’t exactly have ‘pleasurable’ purposes in mind when he developed his ideas on robots but you know that if we had these kind of things in the real world it would only be a matter of time (probably just minutes) before somebody had the bright idea of fitting them out for the oldest profession.

Anyway, here we have a somewhat phallic looking promotional poster of sorts for the cream of the robotic crop. The state of the art, Android powered, ‘Stoya’ model Pleasurebot.  Coming soon…

She’s about 3.5m tall and 3.5m wide and is currently in place on a side street parallel to Water Lane in Camden (but the other side of the train tracks). I thought she was finished just as the rain started then finally remembered to install her cybernetic glowing LED eye just to give it that final futuristic touch. Hopefully it’ll be working for the next few weeks and we’ll be able to get a night shot before it runs out. Many thanks to The Real Art of Street Art  for sorting the space for us!

There’s something going on at Camden Market. Slowly all the huts that make up a lot of the shops are being given a graffiti makeover and we managed to wangle ourselves an invite. Being the gritty street artists that we undoubtedly are we decided to go for something dark and urban.

Only joking. The title of this piece translates as ‘Love conquers all’ and is written above the door in Latin. Combined with the multitude of hearts surrounding this ladies’ face it would seem that she’s got nothing to worry about. Apart from the fact she seems to be eating a padlock. I’m not really sure about that. We added a little quote to the entry step ‘Your body is not a temple, it’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.’ It is Camden after all. Then, we added some LED eyes and, hey presto, you’ve got the finished piece. I’m not sure how long the LED’s will last but at least she should hopefully remain in place for some time to come. Thanks to Monoprixx for the daytime shots and the Real Art of Street Art for having us over to paint.

Blaaaa

Blaaaa

Blaaaa

You know sometimes when you’re speaking to someone and you get the distinct impression that no matter how you go forward with the supposed conversation they are, in fact, delivering a soliloquy to which you are expected to be nothing other than a passive receptacle for their ill considered ramblings. They may be ‘drunk’ or just plain ignorant but there is always a solution for dealing with such nuisances. These range from the somewhat passive ‘I’m just heading to the loo’ (obviously not in order to return) to the more confrontational ‘just what on earth are you talking about?’ to the downright aggressive approach of giving them a Captain Kirk style ninja chop to the side of their neck. It’s all about balancing up the escape opportunities and the threat level presented. In the case of this picture it appears to just be a drunken girl so you have the whole spectrum of responses to consider. It’s down to you…

We are all fools for love

So we’re keeping the ebay ball rolling with a new piece:

Here’s the ebay link

It’s been over a year in the making (mainly because we’re so lazy) but we can finally reveal our huge edition of 2 (well 3 if you count the landscape one that is currently being hand finished) of our piece which was originally a large scale piece done at UPfest in 2012. It’s a combination of screen printing, stencils, spraypaint and a little hand finishing. The picture was based on a photo of a friend and I’m glad to say she has seen the piece since it was done and given it her blessing. I think the message is clear enough that no matter how tough we think we are love can make a fool of us all. Amen to that.
