Tobacco Bloom

A while ago I visited the ‘High Society’ exhibition at the Wellcome Trust and was very surprised to learn via a huge wall mounted infographic that the annual amount of money spent globally on the tobacco market is $625 billion as compared to $200 billion on the total illegal drug market and $825 billion on the entire pharmaceutical market (unfortunately i couldn’t find a version of the infographic image i’m talking about but have found more by the same guy, David McCandless, on his website atwww.informationisbeautiful.net.) This led me to thinking just how much the huge tobacco companies need to continue to sell us their product – and have us buy it. They have so much invested in continuing having millions of addicts that it boggles the mind. In some twisted way this led to the creation of Tobacco Bloom. So there you have it.

id-iom’s Yuletide Fundom Demolition Sale – Absolutely everything must go!

Batman & Robin: The Early Years

Tobacco Bloom

She’s like…

Now here we are again settling in and hunkering down ready for those cold winter months and it’s getting so that you don’t want to go out – especially to be traipsing around the same shops as everyone else buying uninspired Christmas gifts. So, here at id-iom we’ve decided to hold a Yuletide Fundom Demolition Sale!

This has mainly been inspired by the fact that we have had to move out of our basement studio as the building it’s in is getting demolished. We’ve been covering our attempts to give the old girl some new interior decoration on our blog for a while now so at least she’ll be looking good for her final bow.

As of yet we haven’t been able to find anywhere else so are having to get rid of a lot of stuff that has been hidden away in various nooks and crannies (and it was a pretty big space!) But it’s also because we are a pair of Santa’s little helpers in a gonzo artists guise. We will be selling all the artwork that we’ve had lurking in the studio on Ebay and starting them off at cheap and letting them go for whatever it is they go for. There will undoubtedly be bargains to be had.

Our idea is to start all paper items off at £0.99 and all canvas pieces at whatever cost a replacement blank canvas costs right now.

We’ll be adding more on a pretty much daily basis in the run up to Xmas (and possibly beyond) so check back regularly for updates. We hope you can find an original bit of art for a loved (or maybe even someone you don’t really like if you’re that kind of person). The very best of luck if you’re bidding…

Our first slew of pieces include:

All 3 are unique A3 screen prints on paper with hand finishing and are signed on reverse.

Cardboard, cardboard, everywhere!

There’s nothing like giving yourself more work to do. I printed up these bits of cardboard in order that we could do some street drops (once the weather had bucked up and the cardboard would survive more than 2 minutes in the rain) but then decided it would be best if they were all hand-finished thus increasing our workload exponentially (i love that work ‘exponentially’!)

Anyway I always wonder what happens with pieces when you put them on the street. Do people pick them up? Does the bin man get them? Are they otherwise destroyed? Who knows. What they do once released is up to them – although i always wish them the very best of luck. It’s a harsh world out there and the circle of life is always turning but surely some must make it somewhere nice…

Tobacco bloom

I recently visited the ‘High Society’ exhibition at the Wellcome Trust and was very surprised to learn via a huge wall mounted infographic that the annual amount of money spent globally on the tobacco market is $625 billion as compared to $200 billion on the total illegal drug market and $825 billion on the entire pharmaceutical market (unfortunately i couldn’t find a version of the infographic image i’m talking about but have found more by same guy, David McCandlesshere.) This led me to thinking just how much the huge tobacco companies need to continue to sell us their product – and have us buy it. ‘Tobacco Bloom’ comes on either paper or my new favourite medium – slate! It seems that everything works better on slate and it just looks lovely framed (but with no glass in as it’s such a tactile surface).
